The portal was developed within the project “Web Portal - Georgian Women Composers” implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia. The goal is to promote Georgian women composers who have worked in the professional-academic music field.

Based on the project regulations, each stage will spotlight one composer from each decade, a total of ten composers. The featured material includes encyclopedic information, biographies, creative paths, a complete list of works, merits, available literature, digital audio (MP3) and sheet music (PDF) of select works, links, and photos.

Working on the project turned out to be quite challenging. Information regarding women composers was scarce and difficult to obtain. That is why even the minute details discovered during the research have particular importance. The existence of some material in the related fields also aided the implementation of the project (photos, theater history, documentaries, radio and TV archives, press, etc.)

Unfortunately, the works and achievements of Georgian women composers are not well known. One should note with great sadness that many of the Georgian women composers often had to work in the shadow, no one even mentioning their names. We hope that the portal will raise awareness about the vital aspect of Georgian culture - Georgian women composers and their works.

We believe the presented material will resonate well in the educational field and serve as a supplemental source for music textbooks. In addition, digital sheet music pieces will create the prerequisites for performing the works on the concert stage and thus bring them to life.

We wish the visitors of the portal a pleasant and beneficial journey into the creative works of the Georgian women composers. Also, we invite anyone interested to engage in the quest for new material in coordination with the administrative group, thus contributing to the ongoing revision and expansion of the portal.
